Sidecar Speaker shares audio directly between your Mac and the iPhone or iPad devices you connect. The app has no developer-operated audio server.
1. Audio and local connections
After you choose to share system audio and grant macOS permission, the Mac captures its system audio and sends it to approved receiver devices over the available local IP network. The receivers and the Mac temporarily buffer audio in memory for playback. The app does not save recordings or upload audio to the developer or a cloud service. It does not capture the microphone as an audio source.
Device discovery and connection exchange local network addresses, device names, an app-generated receiver identifier, and temporary connection and timing information. These are used to find devices, approve connections, distinguish receivers, assign stereo channels, and maintain playback. Your chosen device name may be visible to other devices on the local network. Use a name that does not disclose information you wish to keep private.
2. Data kept on your devices
The receiver stores an app-generated random device identifier and its chosen display name in local app preferences. The Mac stores a manually saved speaker arrangement, including receiver identifiers and positions. Playback uses volume, latency, connection, and routing state locally; not all settings persist after restarting. Connection approval and recovery tokens are temporary and are cleared when the Mac closes connections or restarts the app.
macOS and iOS may retain ordinary system diagnostic logs with playback state, network path information, and errors. Development builds can also write local diagnostic snapshots containing timing, counters, audio format, levels, and lifecycle state. The app does not deliberately put raw audio, connection codes, or session tokens in those snapshots, and it does not automatically send diagnostics to the developer.
3. Permissions and controls
- Local network: used to discover and connect your devices.
- System audio recording on Mac: used only after you start sharing system audio. Stop sharing to end capture and playback.
- Background audio on iPhone and iPad: allows ongoing playback while another app is visible. No audio is received when the Mac stops sharing.
You can refuse a connection, stop sharing, disconnect devices, change the receiver name, or revoke permissions in system settings. The app does not request access to your contacts, photos, location, or advertising identifier.
4. Accounts, tracking, and third parties
The current app has no account registration, advertising, tracking SDK, analytics SDK, or in-app purchases. It does not sell personal information, profile listening habits, or combine device information with information from other apps. Apple handles App Store distribution and any system-level diagnostics under its own settings and policies.
5. Support messages and this website
If you email support, the developer receives the email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. They are used to respond to your request and troubleshoot the issue. Do not send raw audio, connection codes, session tokens, or other sensitive information. Support correspondence is retained only as needed to resolve the request, follow up on relevant issues, or meet legal requirements. Contact support to request access, correction, or deletion of correspondence, subject to applicable requirements.
This policy, the terms, and the support pages are static pages hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When you open them, Cloudflare processes standard web request information, such as IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time, to deliver and protect the site. The site itself sets no analytics cookies and includes no analytics script, advertising, or contact form. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its handling of visitor information. This website traffic is separate from the app’s local audio connection.
6. Retention, deletion, and questions
Audio buffers are temporary and are released as playback stops or buffers are replaced. Local preferences remain on the device until cleared; iPhone and iPad app removal normally clears the app’s local data, while operating-system backups or a later restore may retain or restore it. Removing the Mac app may leave preferences or diagnostic files. Contact support for instructions to clear local Mac data. The developer cannot remotely access or delete your local app data.
